Monthly Message from the President

November 2008

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

This is a historic time we are living in! The first African-American has been elected to be President of the United States. His being elected is bringing hopeful optimism and enthusiasm to our country. The changes he hopes to make will impact all of us. Estate taxes and gift planning will certainly be a part of those changes.

The National Capital Gift Planning Council is one of the resources you can count on to keep you abreast of the changes that will affect the work you are doing in the charitable community. Our programs are designed to help you learn, connect with others, and succeed in your work.

A new program that was just kicked off is our Mentoring Program. This benefit for members of the Council will pair up seasoned professionals with those who want to learn more about this fulfilling profession. Check out the Mentoring Program on this site and sign up to be a mentor or request a mentor. What better way to Learn – Connect – Succeed! Click here to sign up.

The November meeting included a “Nuts and Bolts” session with Kathy Ward on a bequest program that really works. Kathy has been succeeding for years and openly shared her “secrets.” Also in November, Viken Mikaelian examined good and bad marketing pieces, discussed the role of the Internet in planned giving marketing, and suggested alternative marketing options.

Attendees walked away with many concrete ideas to help them achieve their goals.

Don’t miss our next program on Wednesday, December 10 in the Marvin Center at George Washington University. Click here for details or to sign up online.
