"Charity on Trial" with Douglas E. White
Over the past decade the media have increased their spotlight on charity practices and misdeeds. Despite a strong and healthy philanthropic sector, donors have become skeptical - public confidence in charities is low - and want to know, more than ever before, how charities operate and what they do with the money they get. This is particularly true for gift planners who solicit endowment and planned gifts whose effects will be seen far into the future. It is the wise charity that voluntarily heeds the call for accountability and transparency. Doug will discuss some of the steps gift planners can take to ensure they are doing what they can to satisfy donors, as well as the charity's own obligations to its public.
"Donor Engagement" with Eric Swerdlin, ChesterCAP, LLC
Development professionals are being asked to improve the results from their department by engaging donors more comprehensively and then keeping them engaged. This session will cover a diverse range of topics, including ways large organizations are using creative investment tactics to bring a more complete suite of solutions for asset management to their donors. How small organizations are taking part in the growing gift annuity market. The presentation will also include a discussion of the growing demand from donors for a more “granular” way of giving and ways that preference can be accommodated.
