The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) - Development Director (Added 2/3/2012)

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is seeking a Development Director to lead the work and activities of the Development Department. This is a key position that requires skill and expertise in leading and managing a development staff and the fundraising activities of a major nonprofit organization.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a leading nonprofit membership organization chartered by Congress with over 170,000 current members. Founded in 1890, its mission is to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. The DAR programs reflect this mission.

Responsibilities involved in the oversight of the development efforts include the planning, management, procurement and the allocation of resources for the NSDAR fundraising strategies. Major activities of the department will focus on the planned giving, direct mail programs and donor cultivation. The Director manages a team of seven individuals, including staff working from remote locations.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years strong management responsibilities, including the direct supervision of three or more staff members. Experience demonstrating success in nonprofit fundraising, preferably related to planned giving, direct mail solicitations, and donor cultivation, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, skills and abilities, is also required.

This position requires superior interpersonal, customer service, problem solving, and organizational skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of people. Strong computer software skills in a Windows environment are necessary, as well as the ability to apply comprehensive knowledge of tax laws and other rules and regulations for charitable gifts.

The Washington Animal Rescue League - Development Officer (Added 1/26/2012)

Basic Job Description:

The League seeks fundraiser to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation and corporate donors for major gifts to support current operations and our capital campaign. Goal is to obtain large gifts of five figures and above. Efforts will include proposal writing, prospect research, and significant time out of the office on donor visits. Reports to Chief Development Officer.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • P&L responsibility for major gift fundraising with foundations and corporate donors. Will raise funds for current operations and capital campaign. P&L responsibility and all revenue streams of major gift fundraising shared with CDO.

  • Partner with CDO on system of identifying, cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting foundation and corporate donors. Significant time to be spent on phone and in-person meetings.

  • Develop proposals for foundations. Manage full system of foundation relationships, research, prospecting, outreach and reporting.

  • Manage corporate fundraising and stewardship. Focus should also include gifts in kind and pro bono services, as well as online, in-shelter, and newsletter stewardship of corporate donors.

  • Develop prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation tracking and reporting system for all major gift activities.

  • Participate in capital campaign activities and meetings.

  • Perform some prospect research and some capital campaign management duties.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years professional experience in nonprofit development with experience in successfully soliciting major gifts.

  • Candidates must have proven track record of obtaining major gifts of five figures and above.

  • Must have significant experience in successfully obtaining major gifts from foundations and corporate donors, with demonstrated ability to write effective proposals.

  • Prior experience in following areas are helpful: capital campaign, prospect research, and animal sheltering/advocacy.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including speaking, writing, and spelling.

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends necessary. Some travel may be required. Must have reliable transportation. Must be team member ready to pitch in when needed.

Smith Life Communities is seeking a Director of Gift Planning to work as part of an experienced Development team. This seven member team runs a mature multi-faceted fundraising program that has raised approximately $31 million since 2008. Bequests and irrevocable deferred gifts account for approximately 40% of this total. The Board and administration of Charles E. Smith Life Communities recognize the strategic importance of legacy giving to ensure the future viability and growth of the organization. Through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of planned gift donors and prospects, the Director of Gift Planning is accountable for planning, implementing, growing and evaluating the overall gift planning program at Charles E. Smith Life Communities. This individual will report to the Vice President of Development and Public Affairs and is based out of Charles E. Smith Life Communities Campus in Rockville, Maryland.

QUALIFICATIONS: The Director of Gift Planning should have a minimum of 5-7 years of gift planning experience in a medium to large non-profit with a successful fundraising record. S/he will have a strong background in traditional and complex gift planning, including but not limited to legacy giving, life estates, bequests and deferred giving. S/he must understand federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to fundraising, particularly related to planned gifts. The ideal candidate will have the ability to build strong relationships with prospects, donors, patients and their families, Board members, the Senior Leadership team and the Development team.

Foundation for the National Institutes of Health - PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, Planned and Individual Giving (Added 1/18/2012)

NATURE OF WORK

This is professional development work responsible for planned and individual giving for the foundation. The incumbent is responsible for building a planned giving program and strengthening the organization’s individual giving efforts, in cooperation with major gift staff and others. The position involves identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding both planned and annual individual gifts, as well as communicating closely with NIH to identify and develop appropriate programs for funding; sustaining existing donor relationships; and achieving annual and long-term funding goals. Work is bound by standard office policies, practices and procedures. Work is performed under the direction of the Director, Partnership Development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Establishes and manages a new planned giving program, developing and implementing strategies to meet short-term goals and position the foundation to meet longer-term planned giving goals.

Solicits planned gifts via individual face-to-face meetings with potential donors, written communications, and other means; identifies and cultivates potential new planned giving donors; builds awareness of programs and networks with others who advise potential donors; sets up agreements/documentation for any new planned gifts and stewards all current planned giving donors.

Manages Small Fund development; works with individuals and/or estates to establish new Funds and other designated support programs; manages/stewards existing and new small Funds.

Manages annual campaign; solicits gifts of less than $1,000, (corporations, foundations, or individuals); handles all aspects of all direct mail appeals; coordinates with online fundraising staff; stewards donors and identifies/cultivates them for larger and/or planned gifts.

Organizes and conducts planned giving cultivation and solicitation visits and other outreach for Executive Director and CEO, Director of Partnership Development, self and/or other key staff; prepares briefing materials and coordinates participation of programmatic and/or scientific experts.

Develops, prepares, and manages budgets relating to portfolio, monitors projects and expenses, reconciles as needed with Finance Department; tracks and monitors reporting deadlines; develops reports and distributes to donors.

Ensures all related donor and prospect information, contact reports, deadlines and related gifts are properly recorded and acknowledged in a timely fashion; ensures timely entries into Raiser’s Edge database; establishes and maintains comprehensive files and other records on all programs in portfolio.

Supports Partnership Development Department efforts, assists with projects outside of the established portfolio as necessary, and functions as part of the overall Partnership Development team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an office environment and involves everyday risks or discomforts which requires normal safety precautions when operating equipment and performing the work. Work is essentially sedentary with occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying items under 25 pounds such as books, papers, small parcels, etc…

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Work requires a Bachelor’s degree with three to five years of nonprofit fund-raising experience. Some planned giving experience is essential; individual/annual giving experience a plus, as well as a combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of and experience with current and effective fundraising tools, techniques and practices, especially for planned giving.

Knowledge of fundraising in a non-profit environment.

Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office package and programs. Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge is a plus.

Ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when working with others.

Ability to develop and maintain a working budget.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently.

Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects at one time.

Ability to perform under pressure or within tight deadlines.

Ability to assist with tasks at all levels.

Ability and flexibility to travel, as necessary.

Skill in demonstrating creative and strategic thinking.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution - Planned Giving Associate (Added 1/12/2012)

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a non-profit women’s membership organization, has full-time career opportunity in the Development Office for a Planned Giving Associate to contribute to the planning and implementation of the DAR planned giving program.

Responsibilities include working with the Development Director, Planning Giving Specialists and Development staff to formulate annual marketing and gift plans; identifying, cultivating, and building relationships with donors and prospective donors; preparing charitable giving options for donor consideration; maintaining files of current and potential donors; working with donors’ professionals; and coordinating and assisting with monitoring trusts and estates being probated.

Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year experience working in a development/fundraising environment, or in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Experience in the planned giving field is highly desirable. Qualified applicants must also possess highly developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; customer service and organization skills, and be proficient using word processing, spreadsheet and database software in a Windows environment. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access are preferred. Familiarity with iMIS system a plus. Some overnight/weekend travel required.
